2010 Track Season Begins

Attention all athletes!!!! It's time to start our Indoor Track & Field season! We will start practice on MONDAY, DECEMBER 7TH at 3:00 pm. Practices will be held on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday each week. We want EVERYONE there!

Track & Field is for anyone and everyone. It is a unique sport in that we need all types of athletes, abilities and body types. There are 17 different events in Track & Field, and only half are running events--there's jumping events, throwing events, hurdles and relays, not to mention all the sprinting and distance events. If you enjoy competition, we have a spot for you on our team!

Indoor Track runs through the winter months (December through February), with four meets we will attend. It's a great way to get ready for spring sports--whether that's track, soccer, softball, baseball, etc. We have a great time and work hard.

With the end of the track season we need to get together one last time to reminisce, reflect and rejuvenate with each other.  In other words, it's time to PARTY!!!!  We've decided to do an Ice Cream Social on THURSDAY, MAY 21st at 7:00 pm at the TRACK.  This party is for all team members and their parents.  We are planning on having some ice cream and games, followed by a brief recap of the season and a few awards.  We want all to be in attendance.  PLEASE RSVP to Coach Thompson by Tuesday if you will be attending.  You can email at bart.thompson@nebo.edu, call at (801)423-3200 ext. 1545, or comment on this link.

We look forward to seeing you all one more time before we part ways for a season.

The End of a Great First Season

First, I must apologize for not keeping this blog better up to date in the final few weeks of the season.  It has been hectic to say the least.  It has been a great last 3-4 weeks with many great performances that I want to be sure get posted.

I'll post the Central Utah Invitational Results HERE.

For Results to the BYU Invitational, click HERE.

Click HERE for our REGION VIII Championship Results.

As far as State goes, we had a great showing by most if not all of our athletes that qualified for state.  Among some of the top performances were Jason Anderson in the 400 (3rd place), our Boys and Girls Medley Relay teams (both finished 6th place), and our men's 4x400 Relay which nearly upset favorite Delta in one of the more exciting races of the day on their way to 2nd place.  Congratulations to all team members on a great season.  We as coaches are already excitedly looking forward to next year!  We hope all you underclassmen join us next year for what is certain to be another exciting season.

Relay Results

The last two weeks we've taken a bit of a break from our normal meet schedule to participate in a couple of Relay-only meets. On the 14th, we traveled to North Sanpete for their Relay meet. We had a great time, despite the cold. Luckily, the wind and rain didn't start too bad until we were on the bus and on our way home.

This previous Tuesday, the 21st, we went to the Timpview Relays to participate in another relay-only meet. We had a great time and most everyone in attendance ran/jumped/threw very well. The highlight of the meet had to be when the throwers pulled their BBQ grill out of their bag and started to grill up some burgers, brats and dogs! MMMM-MMM!

Oh What a BEAUTIFUL Day for a Track Meet!

Boy, I'll tell you what, we sure can pick our dates for track meets! We've hosted two meets so far, and they have been the nicest two days of the entire season so far. Tuesday's meet was by far the nicest Spring-like weather we've seen yet, and we took full advantage of it!

The nine teams that attended made for some great competition in what felt almost like an invitational due to the overall size and effort that went into pulling it off. Thanks to everyone who helped out in ANY way to pull it off.

As far as our team performances go, both our Boys' and Girls' teams finished in a strong 3rd place overall. We saw numerous PR's and improvements throughout the team! Nice work to everyone who improved. You can find the results HERE for the boys, and HERE for the girls.

This weekend we will be traveling to the Utah County Invitational at Orem High on Friday and Saturday. The bus will leave the high school about 2:00, so please be on time.

Snow, snow, go away!

This weather is getting old quickly! We survived another miserably cold meet this weekend, this time at Timpanogos High School's Asics Invitational. Despite the cold, we had several great performances from several athletes. Athlete of the meet honors would definitely have to go to fab-freshman Siale Vaitohi, who took second in the Long Jump AND the High Jump. In the High Jump, she qualified for the State meet by jumping 5'2" (qualifying is 5'0"). Great Job Siale, and everyone else who braved the cold to compete! Results can be found RIGHT HERE!

This week, we will be hosting a big meet on Tuesday, April 7th here at Salem Hills High School. Expected to be present are: Delta, North Sanpete, Emery, Juan Diego, Carbon, Richfield, Juab and Wasatch Academy. It should be a beautiful day for a track meet, so let's all set new PR's! This weekend we will travel to Orem High School for the Utah County Invitational on Friday and Saturday. We'll talk more about this meet on Wednesday.

Salem Hills, Lehi @ Spanish Fork

On Tuesday, March 31st we went over to Spanish Fork to compete against the Dons and the Lehi Pioneers. It was a bit cold, but all in all, not an awful day, considering the weather we've been having the last week or so... Anyone else completely tired of this stupid weather???

Some of the highlights of the meet were Siale Vaitohi winning all four of her events--the 100, 200, High Jump and Long Jump! Great job! Also, Karlee Loss won the 800 , and Margo Brockbank won the 1600 in her first race of the season after being injured. On the boys' side, Jason Anderson won the 100 and 200, and our 4x100 relay (Billy Fairbanks, Jason Anderson, Josh Adams, Jace Spencer) and our 4x400 relay (Tucker Pinder, Blake Adams, Josh Adams, Jason Anderson) each won their races as well. Great work team!

The complete results are found RIGHT HERE!

Our next meet will be the Asics Invitational at Timpanogos High this Friday and Saturday. The weather's supposed to be crumby again, but what do you expect, right? The meet will start at 3:00 on Friday, and not until 12:30 on Saturday, due to ACT testing.

Mt. Timpanogos Results

After having to cancel the first day of the Mt. Timpanogos Invitational due to weather, we survived a cold evening on Friday at Timpview High School against eight other teams from the area. We performed very well and showed definite improvement across most events, despite the poor weather...

The highlight of the meet had to be the Boys' 4x400 relay where Tucker Pinder, Blake Adams, Josh Adams and Jason Anderson ran a phenomenal 3:30.88 to win the event and qualify for state. Great job to everyone who got a personal best! To see how you did, click on the results HERE. For complete scoring, click HERE for the boys' results, and HERE for the girls' results.

Bulldog Invitational

On Saturday we survived beautiful weather and great competition at Provo High School at the Bulldog Invitational. The meet took a little longer than we had hoped, or wanted, but we saw some great performances by many of our athletes. Jason Anderson became our first State qualifier by qualifying in the 100 Meters and the 400 Meters. Also, our 4x400 Relay team ran a state qualifying time before being disqualified on a technicality. The team was Tucker Pinder, Blake Adams, Josh Adams and Jason Anderson.

Our complete results are found HERE.

This week we will be traveling to Timpview High School on Thursday and Friday for the Mt. Timpanogos Invitational. This is another great state qualifying meet with numerous schools from around the valley and beyond competing. We look forward to competing again and hopefully qualifying a few more individuals and relays for the State championships! Good Luck to everyone competing! Meet information is found HERE.

March 17th Meet Results

On March 17th we held our first ever home track meet. Things went relatively smoothly, if I do say so myself! We had North Sanpete, Payson and Provo High Schools here competing with us. Thanks to the coaching staffs of these three schools for being here and helping out! The results from the meet are HERE for the Boys, and HERE for the Girls. Great job to all who competed!

This Saturday, we will be traveling to Provo High School for our first State Qualifying Invitational. These meets are important, in the fact that they allow us opportunity to try to qualify for the state championships in May. Be sure you are with us for this meet on Saturday. The bus will be leaving at 7:45 am on Saturday from the North end of the school. If you would like to see the schedule of events, it can be found HERE.

First Salem Hills Track Meet!

On Thursday, March 12th (after a two-day snow delay), we finally participated in our first track meet at Salem Hills High School. We traveled south to Nephi to compete against Juab, Manti, Spanish Fork, Delta and ALA. The weather was quite cold and windy, but we survived and had a solid showing considering our lack of track experience. We had several great performances, including first place in both the girls and boys 1600 meters (Cosette Stone and Tyler Gebert, respectively). Complete results can be found HERE for the girls and HERE for the boys.

Tuesday, March 17th we will be hosting our first home track meet against Payson and North Sanpete High Schools. We are excited to showcase our great facilities and see how we stack up against these two teams. We will get underway about 3:15, so be sure to check us out!

New Home of Salem Hills Cross-country

I've decided to separate the Track and Cross-country team websites due to the differences between the sports. This will hopefully allow me to post more specific information about each sport's schedule, coaches, announcements, etc.

The Cross-country site is now www.salemhillscrosscountry.blogspot.com. Everything you've come to enjoy about this site has been copied over to that site. Additionally, in the coming weeks you will see this site undergoing major changes as I transfer it from Cross country to Track & Field.

First Salem Hills Track Meet

Salem Hills High School's track team competed for the first time over the weekend at BYU's Smith Fieldhouse. We had about 18 athletes compete for the Skyhawks with several showing very well. For complete results, click here.

This next weekend, we will be traveling North to Weber State's indoor track facility. The bus will be leaving the high school at 6:00 am. Plan on attending! Meet information can be found here.

We are still desperately looking for more athletes to join our Indoor Track team. We are meeting each Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at 3:00 in the North commons (by the wrestling room). We will be traveling to three more meets, including three days in Pocatello, ID for one of the nation's largest and most prestigious high school track meets, the Simplot Games. WE NEED YOU!!!
